KORA SANZA FUSION

Discover the sweet melodies of ancient Africa:

Sadio Sissokho and Trevor Ferrier present the fusion of kora (the harp-lute) with the sanza (the thumb piano). Traditionally, the kora was played by griots, storytellers, poets, memorialists, advisers to the kings of the Mandingo Empire. The sanza (also known under the names of mbira, likembe, kalimba, gongoba or thumb piano) is a very old instrument from the culture of African villages. Our presentation explores the construction, playing techniques, and history of these two ancient, rare, and relatively unknown instruments.
